2022 BMW Championship odds, picks and PGA Tour predictions

Will Zalatoris claimed his 1st PGA Tour victory Sunday in the opening leg of the playoffs at the FedEx St. Jude Championship, claiming the top spot in the FedExCup standings heading into 2nd week of the postseason. He and the remaining top 70 players will take on Wilmington Country Club for the 2022 BMW Championship.

Below, we look at the 2022 BMW Championship odds and make our PGA Tour picks and predictions.

Zalatoris unseated Scottie Scheffler as the No. 1 player in the FedExCup standings. Rory McIlroy (9th), Justin Thomas (10th) and Jon Rahm (14th) are all in the field, of course, fighting for position as the Tour Championship approaches. Only the top 30 players in the standings after this week advance to the final leg of the playoffs. With only 70 players in the BMW field, there is no 36-hole cut.

Wilmington Country Club is hosting its 1st PGA Tour event. It’s a par-71 and is expected to play 7,534 yards, making it a longer course than last week’s host, TPC Southwind. The greens are large and the fairways are relatively narrow, so it may not be a bomber’s course – unless the rough turns out to be manageable.

Jon Rahm (+1300)

Rahm has the second-best odds (behind McIlroy +1000), and I’m willing to lay some money on the former No. 1 player in the world. He was rock solid last week in Memphis despite looking lost on the greens at times, firing rounds of 67, 69, 66 and 67 at TPC Southwind. If a few more of his putts fell, he very well could have been crowned the champion instead of finishing tied for 5th, 4 shots back.

Collin Morikawa (+2000)

Morikawa shot the exact same scores as Rahm and played equally well. It was good to see him back on track after struggling the last time we saw him at St. Andrews, looking like the excellent ball-striker that he’s always been. Morikawa isn’t a bomber off the tee, but he’s accurate and hitting greens from the fairway will be essential. That’s an area he excels in.

Cameron Young (+3000)

Young didn’t have a good week in Memphis despite finishing T-31 thanks to a final-round 66. He struggled mightily on the greens like Rahm, but Wilmington suits him even better. I’m going back to Young this week in a loaded field where no one really has an experience advantage because it’s a new course on the schedule. His driver will be a weapon off the tee and he’ll hit a bunch of greens if he can keep it in the fairway.

It sure would be fitting for him to win his 1st PGA Tour event the week after his college roommate Zalatoris did after both were so close all year.

BMW Championship picks – Contenders

Adam Scott (+6000)

Oddsmakers had no choice but to improve Scott’s odds this week after he showed everyone wrong in Memphis with a T-5 finish. At +6000, he still comes with great value for a guy who’s made 6 straight cuts and has 3 top-15 finishes in half of those starts. His putter was red hot, gaining 1.79 shots on the greens to lead the entire field, according to Data Golf.

Aaron Wise (+6000)

Wise hit the ball really well in Memphis, ranking 18th in strokes gained: tee to green. He just didn’t do anything with his putter, which has been his Achilles’ heel. Still, Wise is catching fire right now with 3 straight top-35 finishes, including a T-13 at the Wyndham Championship 2 weeks ago. His irons have been strong lately and should continue to keep him in contention this week.

See also: BMW Championship prop bet picks and predictions

BMW Championship picks – Long shots

Denny McCarthy (+10000)

McCarthy faded on the weekend after ending Friday’s round at 9-under par through 2 days. He was 1-over on Saturday and Sunday which led to a disappointing T-20 finish. But I love the way he’s trending, bouncing back from 2 straight missed cuts. In his last 7 starts, he has 3 top-10s and 4 total top-20s.

Sepp Straka (+20000)

How does the runner-up on Sunday have some of the worst odds in the field this week? That’s a great question, but I’m willing to take a chance on him. He ranked 9th in strokes gained: tee to green and fourth in strokes gained: putting last week, according to Data Golf, so he was impressive both on the greens and from tee to green. If he can keep this momentum, he has a chance to win in Delaware.

Want some action on the 2022 BMW Championship?
